Ilke Homes Ltd is set to go to trial at York Crown Court after a prosecution was brought by the government’s Health and Safety Executive.  The company was charged with one count of contravening a health and safety regulation on December 12, 2018.

A leading bedding manufacturer has been fined £80,000 after an employee suffered horrific injuries when his hand was drawn into a machine.  John Cotton Group Limited faced legal action following the incident on 9 December 2020 – which resulted in the machine operator having three fingers on their left hand amputated.

HSE  is aware of a number of fires on, and around, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)  powered forklift trucks and other similar vehicles that have occurred during starting. Build-up  of deposits in fuel systems, in particular, the vaporiser units of LPG powered vehicles  has led to a number of fires.

A glass distribution and installation company has been fined £200,000 after an employee broke two ribs and fractured his vertebra after being crushed by a crate.  The man, 29, was working for PSV Glass and Glazing Limited at the firm’s warehouse at Stakehill Industrial Estate in Middleton.

Two men have been jailed and a third sentenced after the Environment Agency found they were storing material at a waste site illegally.  Thomas Todd, Jamie Todd and Bryan Walker stored waste in a way that broke a number of fire regulations at the former Bowman’s Site, in Skegness, Lincolnshire near the A52.

Every work-related suicide should be investigated by the Health and Safety Executive, experts have said, in the wake of the death of a head teacher following an Ofsted inspection.   The family of Ruth Perry, who took her own life in January, say the inspection put her under huge mental pressure.

On 30 September 2016, Andrew Potts was working for United Pallet Network at its hub in Lichfield, Staffordshire, when a lorry containing a consignment of four pallets of glass arrived. The pallets had not been appropriately loaded or secured and fell out of the trailer onto the 58-year-old as he made attempts to adjust them. Andrew broke his neck in five places, in addition to suffering other injuries, and has been left permanently disabled.

A manufacturing company has been fined after an employee was drawn in to a machine and suffered multiple fractures to his left arm.  The man, who is from Newcastle, had recently started working as a manufacturing operative for Gates Engineering & Services UK Limited at its site on Bassington Drive in Cramlington, and was undergoing training when he was assisting another worker on the company’s 60-metre lathe on 12 November 2021. The new employee, who was 22 at the time of the incident, was working at the rear of the lathe when the rubber material he had just applied fell from the steel mandrel.
